Post Workout Muscle Recovery!

Do you know why people drink protein after a workout?

There are different types of protein drinks out there, you need to find one that fits for you!  First you need to make the choice between animal source protein (whey is the most common) and vegetable source protein (soy or hemp is popular in the vegetarian/vegan community).  Whey protein is often recommended because it is easily digestible and helps build lean muscle as well as aiding in a healthy immune system and MANY other reasons.

Top reason to ingest a protein shake after working out is its aiding in muscle recovery.  When you workout, depending on your intensity, you are creating microscopic tears in your muscles (NORMAL!).  Because of the protein and carbohydrates being used to fuel your muscles, you are going to need to replenish your body ASAP after a workout!  Here is where the protein shake comes in!  Because the whey protein is easily digestible, it hits your bloodstream about 30 minutes after drinking it, this means those proteins and carbohydrates are going right into healing and growing those muscles after their workout.

I also drink aminos before/during/after my workout.  Amino acids are the building blocks of protein! Your body turns all protein into amino acids and this is how they travel through your body.  BCAA's (branched chain amino acids) are recommended for people who workout because they are the aminos that manufacture, repair and maintain muscle tissue.  Read more on amino acids here.

If you are feeling tired and sore after a workout and haven't started drinking a protein shake yet, now is the time to try it!  Build some lean muscle while recovering and providing your body with the macronutrients it needs to be healthy and strong!

(note my almonds- eat your fats people!)

to live is Christ, to die is gain.

The apostle Paul wrote those words in Philippians 1:21...God did some miraculous work thru Paul didn't he!? After Paul saw the light (literally) he traveled to Judea, Syria, Cilicia, Galatia, Pamphylia, Asia, Macedonia, Achaia and Italy. WOW. I've shared God's word....via skype to my bestie Nicole and...uhhh..shoot. What am I doing?! Yikes, I'm so ready to go, to tell of God's glory, to "Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and teaching." (2 Tim. 4:2) Its convicting to know that I really haven't done as much as I could be doing, if I died, I have no doubt I would meet Jesus, my Lord and Savior would know my heart and how much I love Him and my willingness and readiness to share Him with the world..but I also know He will stand before me and say, Look at what you could have had, if only you had come to me sooner, done My work rather than yours. In one of my earlier posts I had writ...

Midnight in Paris

I just stumbled upon these seriously gorgeous photos of Marion Cotillard and had to share! I am now itching to see Midnight in Paris because of its 93% rating from Rotten Tomatoes {and dang it's hard to please them!}. Have you seen it, did you enjoy it? xxoo

Dinner Fail, Dessert Win!

Last nights dinner was supposed to look like this Instead it turned out like this It was a serious fail. The flavor was good, but it looked terrible and took more than twice as long to make as we thought it would. Oh and, it was a bit too crispy. BUT Dessert redeemed me, it was Kiwi Lemon Cheesecake - Yum! The recipe called for lemon curd, and when I saw how expensive it was at the store, I decided to try and make my own! It turned out great, and this was the end result It was not quite as solid as it should have been, but delicious non-the-less! Both of these recipes were from Rachel Ray's Everyday magazine. It was exciting making new things, hopefully next time they turn out a bit better :) xxoo
